Mentre si attendono le prime notizie sui film in concorso alla sessantanovesima edizione del festiva di Cannes, che si svolgerà in costa azzurra dall’11 al 22 maggio 2016, è stato reso noto il film che aprirà l’edizione di quest’anno. Sarà il genio di Woody Allen, con il suo nuovo Café Society ad aprire le danze sulla Croisette. Il film sarà proiettato mercoledì 11 maggio al Grand Théâtre Lumière in Sélezione ufficiale, ma sarà fuori concorso. Si tratta di un record di presenze a Cannes per il regista newyorchese, che aveva già aperto il Festival nel 2002 con Hollywood Ending e nel 2011 con Midnight in Paris. Café Society segna un ritorno ai temi del metacinematografico, in pieno stile Woody Allen, con una spiccata predilezione per le epoche d’oro del cinema, così come della letteratura. Il nuovo film è infatti la storia di un giovane che negli anni Trenta si trasferisce a Hollywood nella speranza di lavorare nel cinema. Ma una volta giunto lì si innamorerà e si ritroverà coinvolto nella Café Society tipica e caratteristica dell’epoca.
Tra i protagonisti, gli attori Kristen Stewart e Jesse Eisenberg e poi Steve Carell, Parker Posey e Blake Lively. Mentre il direttore della fotografia è Vittorio Storaro e il film è prodotto da Letty Aronson (Gravier Productions), Stephen Tenenbaum, Edward Walsoncon e Helen Robin (Perdido Productions).
